INSTRUCTIONS FLYPAD
FlyPad is a newly developed and patented product used to catch flies when the horse is in the fold or being ridden.
On warm and sunny days, a lot of flies will be swarming around the horse’s head and cause a great amount of irritation.
They will land by the horse’s eye in order to extract fluid and protein from the eye excretions, which the flies need to produce their eggs.
FlyPad works best in the fold, once heat and the sun make the flies very active. We recommend using FlyCatch for stables.
FlyPad uses the horse’s eye excretions as bait. FlyPad should therefore be placed close to the horse’s eye through the halter or bridle. The flies will swarm and typically land on many random places around the horse’s head. FlyPad takes advantage of this as the flies will also land on the adhesive plate and get stuck.
01.
FlyPad is fitted to the halter by clicking it on around the halter’s strap. The halter’s strap cannot be too thick, as the FlyPad holder will then curve too much and the adhesive plate will not be attached tightly enough. There are three locks holding it in place.
02.
Use the fold halter with the FlyPad attached as needed. This will be when you think there are too many flies and the horse is being stressed too much.
03.
The adhesive plate is put into the holder. Small tapes on the sides and one on each end hold the adhesive plate in place. The white protective paper should be removed.
04.
Then FlyPad is ready to catch the flies swarming around the horse’s head while it is in the fold. Only use the fold halter with FlyPad once the horse has rolled over.
If you are going to be training or going for a ride, you can easily have a FlyPad mounted on the bridle. Place the FlyPad as close to the horse’s eyes as possible, as the flies are attracted to the horse’s eye secretions.
FlyPad is very easy to attach. Once you have finished riding, keep the FlyPad holder in its place, as the plastic locks deteriorate if you take them on and off too many times.
IMPORTANT
- Do not use the FlyPad in the stables. The horses will rub against things, and this increases the likelihood of FlyPad being destroyed.
- FlyPad cannot be taken on and off again multiple times, as the functionality of the three locks will deteriorate.
- If there are other horse owners in the area, then share your knowledge so that they can also take steps to get rid of the flies. It can be a good idea to buy multiple FlyPads at once and you can get a discount on bulk purchases.
- Always use a special halter with FlyPad that is only used for catching flies while in the fold.
- When letting the horses out of the fold, wait for the horse to roll over before changing the halter. Gravel and grass can quickly get stuck to the adhesive and make it unusable.
