STRATEGY FOR THE FOLD
By using the strategy below, you will already be well on your way to reducing the number of flies in your fold.
The fly menace in the fold is particularly difficult to manage, as horses by their nature are curious and will end up breaking many flytrap devices. There are many solutions that protect the horses against the irritating and disease-carrying flies in the fold, but most of them take the approach of driving away the flies.
However, as it is a fact that a fly only lives for 10 days and can have 500 offspring, it is a better strategy to catch the flies and stop them from procreating. Here you can use the patented FlyPad product.
The flies swarm a lot around the heads of the horses. They do so because they extract fluid and protein from the horses’ eye secretions. FlyPad takes advantage of this by placing the FlyPad fly catcher close to the horses’ eyes.
Buy a FlyPad package with an adapter and 10 adhesive plates.
- Have a fold halter only used for FlyPad.
- Use this fold halter whenever you think there are too many flies in the fold. Remove it from the horse when you have finished catching flies after a few hours.
- Only use the fold halter with FlyPad once the horse has rolled over. Otherwise the adhesive will be filled with dirt and grass and it will not work properly.
- Repeat the process on a regular basis when the flies become too much of a nuisance.
- Involve other horse owners in the fight against flies.
- Perhaps you can buy the products as a group and save 15% or 30% on bulk purchases.
